Ian McArthur
Chief People & Governance Officer, Innovation Credit Union

With over twenty-five years in the credit union system, Ian has a deep and intimate knowledge of credit unions and an undeniable commitment to the credit union community. Ian joined Innovation Credit Union in April of 2015 and currently holds the role of Chief People & Governance Officer.

During his 15 plus years at SaskCentral, Ian gained a wealth of operational experience and earned a reputation of being an innovative leader and trusted and effective facilitator. Ian had the responsibility of managing the department responsible for credit union operations such as internal audit, risk management, training, operational compliance, deposit and lending support, cash and armored car services, HR consulting and strategic planning. Ian has worked with credit union board and executive teams from across Canada.

In his role at Innovation, Ian is a member of the Executive Team and provides leadership to the functional areas of People, Governance and Strategy. He is excited to be part of an organization that is embarking on digital growth strategy and far down the journey to become only the third Federally Regulated Credit Union in Canada.  He has a passion for leadership and take strives to influence continuous improvement in governance practices within all companies he works for or with.

Ian graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Saskatchewan and followed that up with a Fellow of the Credit Union Institute of Canada designation. Through Queen’s University Smith School of Business, he has obtained his Executive Education Certificate in General Management.  He is the in final stages of obtaining his Chartered Director’s Designation through the Director’s College.  He currently holds Director positions on the Board of SaskCentral and the Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDF.)

Ian lives in Regina with his wife Donna and two young daughters, Hayley and Sara. In his spare time, he is an avid fisherman, camper, enjoys travel and is a fan of the Oilers and the Roughriders. He is active volunteer with particular emphasis on pediatric healthcare. His family has actively supported numerous fundraising activities for the Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Pediatric Outpatient Clinic of Regina General Hospital. He is a Patient Family Partner for the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
