Barbara G. Stymiest CM, FCPA
Barbara Stymiest served as an executive in financial services for over 20 years at Royal Bank, TMX Group, and BMO Capital Markers. Her early career at EY LLP was concentrated in both financial services and health care.
She is an active corporate director serving on the boards of George Weston Limited, President’s Choice Bank, and Resolution Re Limited. She also pursues her passion for the importance and complexity of our health care system through current board and advisory roles at AGE-WELL, AgeTech Capital, envisAGE, and Health Data Research Network Canada, as well as being a past Vice-Chair of University Health Network. She also serves as a director of CIFAR, a global convenor of the world’s research community to address the most important issues facing science and humanity.
In addition to serving as a director, she is a frequent contributor to organizations focused on exemplary governance on a broad array of topics including the board’s role in strategy, risk, and sustainability. Her skills and interest in governance were recognized by the TMX/ICD Committee on the Future of Corporate Governance when she was asked to be the lead author of the Committee’s report, Charting the Future of Canadian Corporate Governance, released in December 2022.
