PROTECT

1 - Industry, Environment and Regulatory Update

A lot has happened in the past 12 months regarding Cyber Risk with new regulations proposed that will impact responses to cyber crimes. Make sure your organization is prepared for the upcoming changes proposed under Bills C26 and C27. This session will also cover updates on the risks, threats and government responses associated with Cyber Security.

Speaker: Robert W. (Bob) Gordon, Strategic Advisor, Canadian Cyber Threat Exchange (CCTX)

2 - Cyber Attacks: The 3 Different Types of Attacks and the Controls Boards Can Implement

Not all cyber attacks are the same. Make sure your organization is prepared for all possible types of attacks and that your Board is asking the right questions to the management team. This session will explore the different types of attacks (3rd party, insider, and unwilling attacks) and the risks and responses best suited to each type.

Speaker: Richard Wilson, Partner, Cybersecurity, Privacy & Financial Crime at PwC, and Chapter Executive, Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), Ontario

RESPOND

3 - Building the Cybersecurity and Resilience of Canada’s Nonprofits

Nonprofits collect sensitive data from their clients. This includes data about addictions, sexual or domestic violence, immigration status, and conflict with the law. They also are stewards of financial data from donors. Cyber incidents can have a profound effect on nonprofits and the communities they serve – who may be uncomfortable with technology, have limited knowledge of their data exposure, and/or face language barriers. Nonprofits face many of the same cybersecurity threats as other Canadian organizations, yet have unique constraints that limit their ability to keep their systems and data safe.

Join the Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience as we launch our report examining these problems and proposing a path forward. Our vision: Every Canadian nonprofit is empowered to securely meet its mission and protect the organization and its beneficiaries from cyber threats.

Speaker: Katie Gibson, Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience

4 - Cyber Crisis – A test of Leadership & Preparedness

In November of 2021, Bureau Veritas experienced a cyber-attack that impacted their global operations. Join Kyle Paul, the CIO and VP of Digital Transformation as he shares insights from the experience of managing through the crises and discusses the long term impacts of those events. The session will go through the key phases of the response effort with a focus on how it will test leaders. From risk management to financial planning, the goal is to arm you with information that will help your organization get prepared to fight back.

Speaker: Kyle Paul, CIO & VP, Digital Transformation for the North American region of Bureau Veritas.

5 - The Realistic Role of Law Enforcement

Does your organizational response to a cyber attack involve contacting and working with Law Enforcement? Are you concerned about involving police in your response and what is it that Law Enforcement can do in such attacks? This panel discussion with RCMP will focus on what the actual role of the police is and what to expect after an attack has occurred and been reported.

Speaker: Chris Lynam, Director General National Cybercrime Coordination Centre (NC3) and Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC). Royal Canadian Mounted Police

6 - Ransomware and Human Behaviour

Research shows that Ransomware is the most common type of attack that many Canadian organizations will become exposed to. This session will discuss everything that you need to know to be prepared for a ransomware attack as well as the human behaviour that makes these types of attacks so successful.

Speaker: Elodie Meyer, Executive VP, Bradley and Rollins; Victoria Granova, 2021 Canada's Top 20 Women in Cybersecurity and Founder, CyberToronto.

7 - Interactive Board Cyber Incident Simulation

Data breaches and cyber attacks are in the news much too often and the likelihood that your organization may be a target keeps increasing. Do you know what your role is if your organization suffers an attack? Do you know what the role of your board is?

Learn what steps you and your board need to take in real-time by participating in this interactive cybersecurity incident tabletop exercise, facilitated by breach coach and data law expert Molly Reynolds, consumer and health data leader Robin Sooklal, and Board Director and governance expert Sara Gelgor.

The focus will be a real-time experience in identifying appropriate decision-makers for critical questions such as public communications, ransom payments and insider leaks. Following the simulation exercise speakers will provide a debrief on the decisions and challenges identified by each small group after each stage and will share best practices for both governance professionals and board members.
