In 2016, Josée joined HSBC Bank Canada (HBCA) as Senior Vice President, Corporate Secretary and Head of Governance. She leads HSBC’s Canadian Corporate Secretary function and is a member of both HBCA’s Executive Committee and Risk Management Committee, and of HSBC’s Global Corporate Secretary Executive Committee. In this role, Josée is responsible for the oversight and implementation of applicable legislation and regulations, corporate governance and compliance standards for HBCA and its subsidiaries. She also contributes to the formulation and development of global governance standards that applies to HSBC at the international level.
Prior to this role at HSBC, Josée served as Secretary to Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), as Deputy Secretary and as Independent Adjudicative Counsel to the OSC, as Senior Legal Counsel to the Canadian Competition Tribunal, and as Competition Law Officer at the Competition Bureau. She started her legal career at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP.
Josée holds a Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) in business law from Osgoode Hall Law School, a Civil Law degree with honours (LL.L.), a Juris Doctor degree with honours (J.D.) from the University of Ottawa and an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. She has taught at the University of Ottawa and at Osgoode Hall Law School, and is a frequent speaker and lecturer at various conferences and events.
In addition to her work at HSBC, Ms. Turcotte previously served on, and continues to serve on various professional associations and not-for-profit Boards of Directors and Board Committees. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Canadian MedicAlert Foundation (as Past Chair) and on its Board Committees, on the Board of Directors of Governance Professionals of Canada (“GPC”), and of l’Alliance Francaise de Toronto. She is a past Chair of the Ontario Bar Association - Public Sector Lawyers Section. Josée is bilingual and a member of various professional associations, including Women in Capital Markets and L'Association des juristes d'expression française de l'Ontario (AJEFO). She is a member in good standing of both the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Barreau du Quebec.
