The Framework of Fairness: Robert’s Rules Essentials

Robert’s Rules of Order is the most widely used procedural manual in North America, used in many organizations and settings, from board meetings to large annual meetings and conventions.

 

This classroom session provides a practical, accessible foundation in Robert’s Rules of Order, helping participants apply procedural rules confidently, improve meeting effectiveness, and support fair, efficient, effective decisions.

The session will cover:

  • Core principles and theory underlying Robert’s Rules of Order
  • The basic six-step process for debate, including how to move and second motions
  • Purpose and limits of main motions
  • Introduction and explanation of the eight subsidiary motions
  • Introduction and explanation of the five privileged motions

Participants will learn:

  •  Common misconceptions and misapplications about Robert’s rules, and the harm these misconceptions have on meetings 
  • Effective modifications to standard procedural rules, and how to create customized rules for your organization
